VIENNA'S PUBLIC
ART

Early in 2001, a long, blank wall with no windows or doors suddenly inspired Vienna Town Council member Bob McCormick as he sat across from it on the bench at the town’s old railway station: here was a canvas waiting to be filled. And so the Vienna Mural Project was born. Some local business owners and artists selected a design from many renderings submitted by local artists. They ultimately decided that Harris Miller, who, with the energetic assistance of the members of the Vienna Arts Society, brought to the wall his celebration of the W&OD Railroad and Trail. Community volunteers, young and old, lent a hand in the project as well. They helped, for example, to direct many of the rivers of paint into the expanses of sky, mountain, and plain.
Completed in 2001. Located by the red caboose in Centennial Park.

A 3500 square foot mural painted in Vienna - (the artists hometown). It was completed in November 2018, by Eleanor Doughty - with Emily Herr, 3 assistants, and local volunteers. It is a landscape of historical points of interest that are connected by the Washington & Old Dominion trail. The mural is located at the north end of Cottage Street, behind Taco Bamba.
Rappaport & the Vienna Public Arts Commission coordinated the installation of this beautiful mural. We can only hope that more brick walls are visited by Eleanor!

For a joint project with the Vienna Public Art Commission, four James Madison High School students came together and painted three storm drains. The paintings that feature scenes that highlight the importance of water quality for human beings, animals and plants are now outside the Freeman Store on 131 Church Street NE.
The students spent a whole weekend preparing the paintings. Vienna Paint and Decorating, a paint and stain supplies store on 203 Maple Ave W, donated 10 gallons of paint for the project.
